A heat pump blowing cold air in heating mode is one of the most common complaints — and often not a real problem at all. Because heat pump air is naturally cooler than furnace air, and because heat pumps run periodic defrost cycles, some “cold air” is completely normal. First: Is It Actually a Problem?
Heat pump air comes out at about 85–95°F — warm to the room but cooler than your body temperature (98.6°F), so it can feel cool against your hand even when working correctly. Truly cold air (colder than room temperature) is the real problem.
